This work is about the alteration of territories and human actions. Social behaviors that more or less consciously change or influence the landscape, to become themselves part of it. The landscape is something ‘mutant’ by definition yet the study of these signs helps us to observe and then to understand the processes of transformation. Mainland is about the evolution of the environment from a natural state to a cultural state, determining, over time, the great complexity of layers and forms that characterizes the landscape.
New conurbations, suburbs, quarries, dams, industries, droughts, floods, intensive use of land, becomes as a metaphor to the dilemma of human existence. Transform nature to meet our needs or changing ourselves in according to nature?
